We've all probably already heard about this new Vaseline body lotion that is claimed to give women fair skin instantly. I was born with naturally tan skin, and though I like the way it is, honestly, there are times I wished I were fairer. Let's be honest, a large majority of us here in South East Asia wish we could be as fair as Korean pop stars and supermodels. They just looked a lot younger and feminine. And anyway, from my experience of being a so-called "model", it's easier to shoot someone who's fair. Clothes just look a lot better on fairer models and that has been a downside for me over the past few years. I'm not obsessed with being fair, I just think that it's a plus point and that's something tan girls secretly wish to have. Admit it. Hahaha

So when I came across the Vaseline Healthy White Instant Fair print ads and TVC, I knew that I had to try it out for myself. I couldn't wait for the 350ml bottle to be sent over to me, so I got myself a smaller 100ml version. I know how impatient I can get. I've been using the lotion pretty diligently over the past few days, especially on days when I have shoots.

My verdict? It works great as a body lotion because it's really light, in the sense that you don't get that greasy, oily feeling you'd usually get from usual body moisturizers. With that said, it won't really work that well if you have really dry skin. I am proud to say that I am consistent in moisturizing my arms and legs everyday for the past 10 years of my life. I've tried almost all of the products you can find in the stores, so you can trust me with this review. However, I like how the lotion is almost scent-less, there's only a subtle powdery smell which lasts for just a couple of minutes so you don't have to worry too much about the smell bothering you.

As to how much fairer I got after using the lotion, I would say... I really did see a difference after applying the lotion for a while. So, Vaseline is right in stating that the Instant Fair body lotion does make your skin look fairer and more radiant instantaneously. However, after a couple of hours, especially since I'm always under the sun and perspiring, the lotion does wear out and I honestly, don't see any significant difference in my skin tone. I'm still tan as ever and I don't think that any product would ever be able to make me fairer since Singapore is ALWAYS sunny. It works great for a while, but doesn't really work out for me for the entire day. So I guess, it'll work differently on different people with different job scopes living in different climatic conditions.

But I'll still continue to use this lotion anyway because there really is a slight difference the moment the lotion is applied. It has a pinkish tint that creates a white cast on my skin when rubbed in. After a few seconds, the white cast disappears while my skin absorbs the nutrients in. At this moment, my skin is slightly fairer. As long as I can look a little fairer during photo shoots or when I'm at an important event, it's good enough for me! It's quite amazing isn't it? Who doesn't love having more radiant skin? My favorite part of the lotion is the added triple sunscreen ingredient that protects skin from UV rays. And the reason why you'd notice an instant brightening effect on your skin is because the lotion contains illuminating minerals like Iron Oxide and Titanium. They act as micro reflectors (like tiny mirrors) that gives the appearance of radiance instantly.

I've only started using the lotion recently, so I can't comment on how well it will further lighten my skin over-time. It is stated though that both Vitamin B3 and 12-HSA found in the lotion would help to minimize the production of Melanin and reduce hyper-pigmentation. (Melanin is a natural substance that we all have in our bodies. It is responsible for the pigment of our hair, skin and iris of the eye.) I look forward to seeing how well these ingredients work out for my skin.
