My Honest Opinion: Samsung NX Mini

Samsung NX mini
Carry the Style, Capture the Best

Hip hip hooray!!!!
I've finally received my new baby, the Samsung NX mini :) I've been using my Samsung NX1000 (one of Samsung's first SMART CAMERAs with Wi-Fi® and in-camera sharing to social networks) for about two years and I have nothing bad to say about it. Except... it doesn't have a flip up screen which (in our selfie-obsessed generation) is rather important. I've always wanted a camera with a flip up screen feature. It just makes things a lot easier for me, especially when I'm filming my vlogs. Hence, I'd been looking for a new camera and was really delighted to receive my very own Samsung NX mini :)

It is available in four different colours: white, brown, mint and pink. I was torn between picking either white, mint or pink. But of course I chose mine in pink. hehehe.

The Samsung NX mini is ultra slim and light, and it fits easily into my little clutches. Perfect for nights out with my girlfriends! I'm super please with that because it has always been a bit of a hassle carrying my older Samsung camera out to parties with me. It's always a little too bulky and takes up too much space in my bag.

Selfie-Obsessed!
The awesome thing about its 3-inch, 180 degrees flip up screen feature is that it's also a touch screen display! Which means that it saves you the hassle of turning the screen around to adjust the settings. Apart from that, flipping the screen upward automatically switches on the camera and its Beauty Face mode, which removes any flaws on your skin. Essentially giving you a flawless, airbrushed selfie shot. Not a fan of it? You can simply turn it off as well.

I had so much fun at the Samsung NX mini launch a few weeks back with Shine and Lydia! I REALLY love how the flip screen display allows me to get everyone in shot for a #welfie. hehehe. With just a quick flip of the display screen, the camera automatically switches on! This effectively saves a lot of time prepping for just a selfie or welfie.

You'd be surprised to know that the whole selfie-taking experience doesn't just stop there. The camera features three modes when a face is detected on the screen. A Normal mode, Smile Shot and Wink Shot. Sounds interesting eh?

Basically, on Normal, a three second timer shows up when you press the shutter. I suppose this is included so that you can prep yourself for your selfie, including making silly faces. However, in my honest opinion, I don't think that it's necessary at all and it can be quite an annoyance in the long run.

With the Smile Shot mode switched on, the camera allows you to have you selfie taken the moment you plant a huge smile on your face. I like how it doesn't have a countdown timer like the normal shot as it fires off when a smile is detected.

The last mode, the Wink Shot fires off when a wink is detected. It's cool and interesting but it doesn't work sometimes, hence it can get pretty frustrating just waiting for the camera to detect the wink. I'll probably just stick to the classic normal mode for now.

The Samsung NX mini comes with a 9mm "pancake" prime lens that I heard is excellent for welfies since it is able to fit more people or backgrounds into the picture and will be a great lens to use for vlogging. However, I feel that as a blogger, it is essential to have zooms lens. Especially when I need to zoom into things at events or fashion shows etc. Hence, a 9-72mm zoom lens can be purchased separately at $100. The Samsung NX mini with the 9mm prime lens costs $549 and the one with 9-27mm zoom lens costs $649.

Alternatively, if you are used to using Lightroom to edit your photos, rejoice! The Samsung NX mini comes along with a free version of the Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 5 for you!
Sharing made easy!
The Samsung NX mini's Tag & Go feature allows you to share your pictures instantaneously with your friends from the NX mini to any NFC-compatible smartphone. All I had to do was to download the Samsung SMART CAMERA or MoblileLink app from the app store and follow a couple of instructions from the NX mini and viola!!! High-res pictures in my phone ready to be shared on my social media platforms! Ever since I'd stumbled upon the Mobile Link feature in my Samsung NX1000 camera, uploading high res and clear pictures on Instagram is a breeze for me. And I'm happy to find out that this can be done much faster with my NX mini! I've heard that it's still a little lag compared to other camera devices but it's really good enough for me. Some times, all you need is a little bit of patience ;)

One more feature that I love about the Samsung NX mini is the longevity of the battery life! As I mentioned, High-res photos are crucial to me, so it really sucks when my camera battery dies on me. However, I don’t have to worry about this with the Samsung NX mini because this little camera can actually take up to 530 shots (2,330mAh)! Gone are those days of worrying about not having enough battery to take high-res photos! YAY!

Just like my Samsung NX1000, the NX mini comes with an External Flash. I don't really use it often because with it on, I am not able to flip the screen 180 degrees upward for a selfie. That means, the NX mini camera wouldn't work that well for selfies with external flash at night unless you're in a well-lighted place of course. This means that if I want to take a selfie of myself with my friends at a pub at night, I would still have to take the picture from the front without the flip screen facing me, the old fashion way.
Naomi, Nicole, Shine and I playing with my Samsung NX mini during Gushcloud's recent photo shoot! I love how vibrant the colours are however, it can get quite overly-saturated which I don't fancy at all since my skin's tone is already pretty yellow. I'm sure there are ways to fix it, but I just haven't figured it out yet.
All in all, the Samsung NX mini is a great camera for selfies, thanks to its 180 degrees flip up screen and the auto Beauty Face mode. It is super slim and light, which is great for me because I'm always carrying too many things. It is 20.5MP so you can expect really great photos. Like I mentioned earlier, I just didn't quite like how the detachable flash doesn't allow me to take selfies using the flip screen display. Apart from that, everything else's works well for me. I mean, how can you say no to such a stylish camera?

Have a great week ahead guys!
I know I'm going to enjoy mine because Jordan Belfort is coming to Singapore and he's having a seminar on 8th June 2014 at Singapore EXPO. His name might ring a bell if you'd watch the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street". YES!! The REAL millionaire dude that gorgeous Leonardo Dicaprio played is coming to Singapore. All you people out there who've always been dreaming of making it rich, this is an event that YOU DON'T WANNA MISS. I am certain that many of you are already aware that I have a dream of owning my own business, I want to create my own label... I basically just wanna be a boss of something. If you share that same vision, trust me, this seminar is definitely going to be really beneficial. I mean, come on!! Don't you already feel so motivated watching the movie? The REAL DEAL is here and missing it out is just gonna be your lost.
I actually can't believe that I'm super excited for it. I mean, usually, I'd only get this excited for events relating to fashion or beauty, or parties with my favourite international DJs etc. But I know for sure that Jordan Belfort has the capability to change your mindset and opinions towards certain things in life. I don't exactly know if he's really like what Dicaprio portrayed in the movie, but I really hope he is because then, I'll know for sure that I won't get bored. From what we've all learnt from the movie, he has a natural knack for keeping people engaged to him.

And oh dear, if you haven't seen The Wolf of Wall Street, you're missing out on a lot. I remembered feeling extremely motivated after watching it. I just wanted to get out and do something with my life. I love inspirational movies like that, and even though it had a lot of explicit content, it was fun to watch. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't motivated by the lifestyle he'd led (according to the movie), but I won't lie, I am really interested to know how he'd managed to earn huge sums of money just like that. Like I always tell people around me, "Don't work hard, work smart". This is just the beginning ;)

P.S. The real Jordan Belfort looks a lot nicer than what Dicaprio portrayed right? hahaha

Anyway, I thought I'd just add in the trailer of the movie so you can get the gist of what it's all about.
(I know I said "jizz" instead of gist earlier. HAHAHA Sorry! PAISEH!!)
Hope to see you there! Ticket priced at S$388 for VIP tickets, S$268 for Business tickets and S$188 for Economy tickets.

xoxo,
Eunice Annabel
