Part 3: Thank You!

Hello guys! Can you believe that we're already going into the second week of 2014? I have't even gotten the chance to hand out all of my Christmas gifts yet and it feels like I'm being forced to move on from it. 2013 was great and if you think that time past really fast last year, I think that it's gonna be even faster this year.

The weird thing is, I feel that 2014 hasn't been much of a difference from 2013 for me. You see, when you're younger, you'd always have something to look forward to. Like getting a year older, being officially legal or being a senior in school etc. But at my age, I'm just dreading it. I DON'T WANNA BE 20?!?! But no one can stop time and I'm gonna have to face it in about just 17 days time :(

Anyway, I'm back in school and it's going pretty well. Better then before the break because I'm on the second part of my final year project (FYP) and I'm better at this part. Also, our lecturer for this part is much nicer I should say so going to school is much more enjoyable. hehehe.

Nothing really exciting has been going on for me so far, except for my new blue hair, a few preps for the movie which will be launch on Chinese New Year, and getting back on track for photo shoots. I just can't wait till school is officially over for me on the 4th March cause Fai and I are planning to finally go on a vacation.

This part is gonna be dedicated to the people that have been a part of my little successes along the way in 2013. Without them, I wouldn't be who I am today and I am so thankful for all their support, love and belief in me. They have proven to me that it is important to keep myself around people who are optimistic, selfless and humble. It is true that the people we mix around with are reflections of ourselves so we should keep an eye out on the kind of people we're mix around with.

God

Firstly, I need to thank God. Even though I haven't been to church for a pretty long time, I believe in God and I trust in him. I believe that everything happens for a reason and none of my successes could be possible without His guidance. He's been there every step of the way and whenever something good happens, I thank Him and praise Him for them.

Honestly, some of the things that have happened to me so far still feels like a dream, almost like a miracle. I mean who would have ever thought that an average girl like me would ever get to go on an all expenses paid trip to NYC? I might not ever be able to go to NYC or anywhere that costly and far, therefore, don't you think that that's a gift and a blessing in disguise from God? Therefore, I'd like to thank God for the wonderful 2013 he has given me.

With God, nothing is impossible.

Family

I could not ask for a better family. I have a pair of super awesome and supportive parents that allows me to chase any dreams I desire even if it means putting my school on hold. My mother is always happy and excited for me and she has never expected anything of me. She's understanding and kind and the definition of what humility is and of course, a great role model for me. Without her support from day one when I started modeling for Ashincans, I wouldn't have the courage to go on and be who I am today. It was her who encourage me to take on any opportunities that comes knocking on my door.

My dad isn't always around cause he's such a hardworking man. I know how tired he can get and that's why I always try my best to work hard no matter how sick I'd get, so that I can help out with the household bills. He's probably the kindest man anyone would ever meet. He is slow to anger which inspires me to stay calm and collected whenever something doesn't go the way I want it to. I couldn't ask for a better father. I know like every parent, he wants me to graduate from school and have some qualifications but he'd allowed me to put my school on hold for filming and I cannot be more thankful for that.

My brother is just as supportive and I know that he always has my back. Just like my mom, he's always happy and excited for me. And I wanna thank him for all the support he has shown me in 2013, like from accepting Fai as my boyfriend to constantly posting pictures of me on Instagram whenever I achieve something.

I also wanna thank all my relatives, my aunties and cousins who've supported me in everything I've accomplished as well.

Boyfriend

I wouldn't be who I am today without Fai by my side throughout last year. My entire blogging career started out when I met him and ever since then, he has been guiding me along the way and motivating me to be hardworking. He is by nature a perfectionist which inspires me to be the best I can in everything I do too.

And whenever I'm down and super agitated about everything, he never fails to stay by my side and calm me down. Even when I throw rocks and spit fire at Fai, he's still really loving and caring towards me. Without him, I would probably still be that childish and selfish old Eunice. We've been through so much and I've grown to be more mature through every single downfall we've had.

And yes, if you ask me, I do see a future with Fai. No one would ever put up with whatever nonsense I'd done and shown to him the past and that proves his love for me and I just wanna do the same for him.

Friends

I love how real and raw my friends are. Laraine, Jaslyn and Ashleigh. Every one of them are unique in their own ways and I love them for so many things.

Firstly, Laraine is super talented yet she never fails to stay humble and true to herself. She's a friend that I can always turn to whenever I face any problems and she will put down whatever she's doing to talk to me and make me feel better. She's a friend that puts in a lot of effort and is definitely someone who has been a huge impact in my life.

Next, Jaslyn is always there to cheer me on and I cannot be more thankful for all the support she has shown to me. She's the friend that always had my back and she would tell me to just chase whatever dreams I have and do whatever I wanna do. She has a very mature mind and I can relate to her a lot of times especially when we talk about growing up and earning money etc.

Next, Ashleigh is that crazy friend I have that would do anything crazy with me. She keeps me smiling whenever I have a bad day and she's always just a text away whenever I need her. She's a strong person that has been through a lot but still comes out always humorous and bubbly. She has inspired me to just live my life and not worry so much all the time.

I don't need large groups of people to be my friends. I just need a few good ones to keep me sane, happy and forward-looking.

Everyone I'd ever worked with

Apart from all the people I keep myself very close to, I also have to thank everyone who've been a part of my life in 2013. I am who I am today because of all the blogshops I've modeled for and it is important for me to thank all the blogshop owners who've constantly given me a chance to model for them.

If I hadn't been a blogshop model, I wouldn't be a blogger. So thank you everyone of you who I've worked with along the way. Thank you for always making sure that I'm feeling alright, for always buying me food and surprising me with gifts to even cooking for me! It's very heart warming and that's why I don't ever wanna grow up from it! And I am glad that some of us have also become friends :)

Thank you Gushcloud as well for naturing me and guiding me in 2013. For getting me deals and grooming me into the person I am today. Bottom line is, signing to Gushcloud was one of the best decisions I've ever made and things would be so different if I was never affiliated to them.

Last but not least, I need to thank all of YOU! My readers, supporters and fans :) Thank you for always reading this space and for all your support you've shown me in 2013. Some times, it still feels weird when people ask me for a picture because I really think I'm just a normal girl with a blog who got lucky and is blessed from God.

Nevertheless, its because of all of you that I am where I am today. Thank you for always writing in to me whenever I am down or even buying me stuffs when I'm sick. Its so heartwarming to know that you really care which makes me care for you too. I hope I have inspired you some way or another to not be afraid and chase your dreams. May 2014 be a more adventurous and exciting year for you too :)

Part 2: Taking A Step Back, Things I've Realized & My Plans

Oh my! It's already 1st January 2014. I'd initially wanted to update my blog with the second part of this post before 2013 ended but I was occupied with other things to do so that wasn't possible. Therefore, this would mean that this post is my very first post for 2014!! If you wanna read the first part, here's the link -------> F L A S H B A C K 2013 (Part 1)

Moving forward, as mentioned earlier in that first part, this post is a compilation of all things memorable that happened to me in 2013. It is also a post to remind myself of what I've learnt and how I've grown throughout the year as 2013 was a very significant one for me. There were many enjoyable and unforgettable moments, and there were also times I'd broken down due to too much stress and worries. I hope that by writing this post, my path for 2014 would be much more aligned and whenever I happen to feel down and unmotivated, I hope that by reading this post, it would help me get back on my feet again.

1) Taking A Step Back, Things That I've Realized

Money

One of the reasons why I work so hard is honestly because I love to see the digits in my bank account grow. I enjoy the pleasure of having spare cash so that I can use it for rainy days or I can spend it for special occasions like Christmas, or my friends' and family's birthdays.

I get my income mainly through blogging and modeling for blogshops and though many people think that it is easy money, I'm telling you, it really isn't really that easy. It takes a lot of self-discipline, self-motivation and commitment. And with the rising number of upcoming bloggers, it is important to stay consistent and relevant. If you don't work hard then the jobs gonna be given to someone else and that is equivalent to lesser income.

It's human nature to feel that whatever you possess at the moment isn't enough, you may have 100 bucks in your bank but if you get 200 bucks the next day, you're gonna want more and more, and even when it reaches 1000 bucks, it's also not enough. It's never enough. At one point of time in life in 2013, I'd felt that money was everything. I felt that it makes the world go round and you can do anything and everything with it. But, taking a step back and realizing the dangers that I was putting my mind into, I'd realized that I was wrong.

I was shown a video by one of my fellow blogger friend and my whole perception of money had changed. I don't think that it would right for me to put the link up to this particular video as it kinda is against the government and I don't want to be the cause of starting any sort of riots and stuff. hahaha.

Anyway, in that video, I was convinced that there is no value behind money. Money, that we all work so hard for, taking our time off from our love ones, falling sick for, and getting stressed up for, is nothing. It is nothing but a piece of paper that we use for trade.

Here's what I'd picked out from the video: You see in the past, people used gold for trade but because carrying around gold or gold coins isn't a very good idea (since it's pretty heavy in large accumulated amounts), our paper bill came into the picture. Every single gold coin was taken in by the bank in trade for a paper note. BUT, over time, mass production of these paper notes were made and do you really think that every single paper note printed is still equivalent to a gold coin? Or it is merely just a piece of paper? Paper vs. Gold. That's something to think about. And think about it fast because if an economy crisis would to rise, you'll be in a better position.

Therefore, I conclude that I'd realized that money isn't everything. Quote from the video: "Your true assets are time and freedom." I'm still young and though it is good to save for my future, I shouldn't worry so much and I should just enjoy my time and freedom with my love ones when I still can. What's the point of constantly working all the time, running from studio to studio for photo shoots and getting tired and falling sick? I think in 2013, about 30% of whatever I'd earn went to visiting the doctor. It's stupid.

A House

I may be 19 but many of my peers think that I worry too much like a 30 year old. And I couldn't agree more. I may get wrinkles by the time I'm 35 by the look of how much I think and work and worry all the time. Apart from worrying about having enough savings in my bank, I'd also started worrying about buying a house. Yeah, I know its cray cray.

I think that it is important for us to start planning things like this asap so that when the time comes to really settling down, things would be much easier. Fai is 25 this year, he is at the age where it is inevitable to not think about things like that. I must admit that ever since I've been together with him, I've grown so much more mature and its not an option for me to stay childish and naive. One of the things that we've talked about is getting a house. In fact, a few days ago when I'd asked him what he really wants at the moment, he replied "A house".

Getting a roof over your head nowadays is costly and it takes a while to get one. And I don't want to be one of those that face these problems in future.

Paying Bills

Ever since 2012, I'd gotten myself my own Iphone and have been paying for my own bills ever since. Along the way in 2013, I'd also started given back some of my monthly income to my dad to help out with the household bills. Paying bills definitely contributed to my "mature" growing up mind. I'd realized and tasted a bit of the reality that we all would have to face in future as adults. Its not nice at all giving away a sum of your money to the government every month. Though it is used for our own benefit, it's just sad. When I was young, I never knew why those bills were horror letters to adults, and now I know why. And that's a scary way to tell me that I'm growing up.

All of the above factors are definitely things that we all have to keep in mind. We can't run away from reality and one day we would have to face the difficulties and problems our parents have faced. How we deal with it can be changed if we start planning early. I know that it's not easy to think about these sort of things when we're still teenagers/young adults. I know we still have school, we still want to play, we still want to travel and live our dreams, but it doesn't hurt to have these thoughts at the back of our heads right?

2) My Plans for 2014

Everyone asks me the same thing nowadays "What are you going to do after you graduate from school?" PLEASE STOP ASKING ME THAT. I can't answer you cause I honestly don't know. I don't think that I would be working in the fashion industry even though I am studying about it in school. We'll have to see how things go.

And I live by this motto "It's okay to not know what you wanna do in future, but know what sort of person you wanna be." I may not know what I want to do, but as long as I stay true to the person I want to be forever, then I'll be fine. What's the point of forcing yourself into liking a job you have no interest in? What's the point of forcing myself to study when all I want is to go out, travel and learn about new cultures etc.?

I honestly don't have plans to get a degree unless I have no choice. I feel that you don't need a degree to be successful in life unless you plan to be doctor or lawyer or something. There are so many other ways to stay knowledgable about things while enjoying life to its fullest! I've learnt from Fai that Google is our best friend and you can be a genius from reading something new everyday from it. Hence, I plan to read more in 2014.

Get A Driving License

I also have plans to get a driving license. Straight after graduation, I want to start going for driving courses. I know that it's not easy to own a car and I know how expensive getting one is but I have always wanted to be able to drive and so I will learn how to.

Be Healthier & Fitter

I also have plans to get healthier and fitter in 2014. That is why I've been hitting Amore Fitness pretty often over the last couple of days. I've fallen sick too many times in 2013 and it's time to step out of that and stay healthy! Therefore, I plan to have more balanced meals, more early nights, more exercising and less intake of junk food, EXCEPT CHOCOLATE! No body takes chocolate away from me.

Travel

I also plan to travel more and simply enjoy my life while I'm still young and far away from all those adult stress I'd talked about earlier in this post. Throughout 2013, Fai and I had made a lot of plans to go overseas together but it always failed because either one of us is caught up with work. And sadly, most of the time its because of me. hahaha. Poor Fai. Therefore, as soon as I'm free as a bird in 2014, we are going to travel!!!!! I can't wait!

And that's it for this post!!! The last part would be about the people I wanna thank. People that have helped me, taken care of me and made an impact in my life some how. I would have blog about that part in this post as well but you know how I'm always busy so I can't do it now. I'm going out to enjoy whatever time I have left before school starts tomorrow :( For everyone that's going back to school, I know how sucky it feels, but you're not alone so just hang on! It'll be over before you know it.

PART 1: Top 3 Things I've Accomplished & Learnt From

Alright guys. 2013 is gonna end in just a few days time and I feel that it is important for us to sit down and reflect on what has happened so far. It will definitely help you stay optimistic and motivated to work harder the following year. You see, if you think you did great, then try and do better. If you hadn't done much, then aim to do something significant next year!

This post is gonna be a compilation of all the things that has happened to me in 2013. I had an awesome year with so many opportunities, it was unimaginable and some of it still hasn't sunk in to my head yet. 2013 is by far the best year I've ever had over the past 19 years of my life and I honestly don't wanna move out of it yet. I don't know what the future might bring but I hope that through writing this post, I will be reminded of why I should continue to strive on and be the best I can for the new year.

Apart from all the good stuffs, there were not so good moments too. Like falling sick tons of times, I can't even count, and simply just not enjoying my life as much as I'm suppose to.

But let's get started on the good things first shall we? Here's a list of the top 3 things that I'd went through and accomplished in 2013. They were amazing and I cannot be more thankful for them!

1) Becoming A Maybelline Ambassador

About 3 months after deciding to become a blogger, I was signed to Gushcloud. And one of the very first assignments I'd received was from Maybelline.

It was all pretty scary to me in the beginning. I didn't know what to expect and it was my very first time working with a real corporate cosmetic company. To make it even more nerve wrecking, it was one of the cosmetic brands that I truly adore and have been using ever since I discovered make up. So you can imagine the amount of pressure I'd set for myself. I didn't want to ruin any relationship with Maybelline, I was afraid that they would think I didn't suit their brand image at all, basically I was very self conscious.

And when I found out that they were looking at making Tammy, Linda and I their ambassadors, I was both super excited yet even more nervous. I mean, I barely even blog for half a year yet and I'm gonna be working along side two of the most professional and experienced bloggers ever!! Whenever we were given new assignments, I suppose my drafts were always the lousiest. HAHA. But I guess this was one of the reasons why I've become pretty much an over achiever when it comes to blogging, be it in content or deadlines. Ever since I've worked with Maybelline, I've seen what clients really want and some how, that's the standards I've set for myself which work well for the entire 2013. It was a blessing in disguise and I cannot be more thankful for being given this opportunity to work with Maybelline as the experience has shaped me to become more responsible and it definitely woke me up into being a hardworking and professional blogger. So thank you Maybelline and Gushcloud!

And I got to keep copies of these booklets that were distributed out at Watsons & Guardian! My family, especially my mother was super excited and she took multiple copies so I have tons at home now. haha

2) A Trip to NYC for Sunsilk

On April 26th 2013, I'd received one of the most unbelievable emails in my entire life. It definitely is my favorite mail forever! hahaha. Here's how it all went. I was sitting in my living room next to Fai, watching TV while checking my mails and one of it came from Golin Harris, a PR agency. It was written to inform me that out of all the bloggers in Singapore, I was noticed and picked to represent our nation in NYC for the Sunsilk Style Studio campaign.

Yeah, sounds crazy doesn't it? I kept re-reading that email to make sure that I didn't misinterpret it and 50% of my thoughts was "Omg, is this for real? Is it a scam? Am I going to go to NYC and get kidnapped there or something?" After much clarification, and a very nervous but relieved phone call with the associate in charge of the arrangement, it was all good. And it was true. I was to be flown to New York in a few days time.

International bloggers from India, Peru, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Argentina and I outside Barney's on 660 Madison Ave. We've all become good acquaintances and are still in contact ever since.

It was a pretty difficult situation no matter how excited and blessed I felt. Firstly, I wasn't on a holiday, I had school over the next few days. Secondly, this came as a surprise so I didn't know what to wear, what to expect, or how America was like. And thirdly, I made a mistake by not telling my management, Gushcloud about this. Which made me even more unprepared for the trip. I didn't bring any name cards along, I didn't have my manager to prep me for any interviews and such. I was basically on my own with only my family and Fai to help.

Above all, I was told to bring clothes that were not too heavy but good enough for warmth but when I got there, it was freezing!! And all of the clothes I'd brought were kinda like spring/summer-ish. Which meant I kept re-wearing the same clothes that could keep me warm. It's not THAT disgusting as you think since I was never given an opportunity to sweat at all in their chilly environment. But it was upsetting to be looking so "unfabulous" in such a fashionable city!! So the next time I go there, I'll make sure that I'm fashionably ready. hehehehe

Moral of the story? To always tell Gushcloud of external deals. If I had gone to them for help, I would probably be able to bring someone up with me. I would be way much more prepared in terms of building bridges with potential clients and, definitely feel and look much better in terms of attire. It was a learning point for me of course but then again, traveling all the way to NYC on my own, trusting my own instincts was definitely a growing up stage as well.

Up till today, I can't believe that I took a 24 hours Korean flight all the way up by myself. Not speaking a single word of English for an entire day. I'd figured out how to move around on my own in a completely different country with different sort of people. I was kinda like forced to take care of myself cause no one was around to help me. I was alone, walking all the way from my hotel on 8th Ave to taking their really complicated subway all the way to Madison Ave just to change money, then taking strolls on 5th Ave to visit the Abercrombie and Hollister stores that everyone's raving about in Singapore then. I got to see so many places that I'd only seen in movies before like the Grand Central Library, Grand Central Station, Grand Central Park etc. I was happy but kinda sad that I didn't have someone to share that moment with. And I'd never wished so hard before for Fai to be with me.

Working in NYC felt like the real deal. The people know how important it is to keep their jobs there so they work hard. Crazily hard. But with so much passion, it's so nice to just watch. They don't get stressed out and start sulking, they never fail to incorporate humor into their daily lives and that made me realized how important it is to love what you do. Coming back from that trip, I've become so much more motivated to work hard so that one day, I'd get to visit good old New York again, but this time with my love ones.

And we all know Yuko don't we? The next time you see a Sunsilk advertisement on one of our buses, you'll see her name printed on it. It was such a honor to be able to meet her and get my hair styled by her. She was such a fun-loving and adorable woman.

I'd like to conclude that this trip was one of the best moments I've ever experienced in my life. Being a normal girl that comes from a family with an average monthly income, this sort of things don't happen much. I've ever thought of ever going to America before simply because I just can't afford it. So thank you Sunsilk, Unilever, Salt London and Golin Harris for this amazing and memorable opportunity. I won't forget anyone! :)

3) The Lion Men

Some time back, I was invited by one of my managers from Gushcloud to audition for a role in Jack Neo's new movie titled, The Lion Men. All of us gushers had a shot at it and I still remember how everyone was nervously sitting outside the audition room waiting for our turn. I got extremely nervous when I saw that script in Mandarin cause as you all know, I'm not every fluent in it. So immediately, without a second thought, I went for the English script which definitely puts me at a disadvantage to everyone else who could speak Mandarin.

The audition required us to not only act but sing and dance as well. Don't ask me what I did, I am pretty embarrassed of what I sang and how I danced cause I came totally unprepared thinking that I will never get a role. At some point in the middle of the audition, the casting director, Rena gave me a sort of look as though she saw potential in me. Which then prompted her to ask me about my availability and stuffs, at that moment, I felt that maybe I had a shot and that was when I secretly really wanted a role. hahaha.

A few days or weeks later, a call came from Rena telling me that I was through to the second round of auditions and that this time, it was all gonna be about dancing. Thank God I had some dance background knowledge from CCA back in secondary school. I admit I'm not a good dancer at all and I've never thought that I was good enough. And during the audition practice, I was struggling to keep up with the choreographers and eventually forgot most of the steps during the audition. However, I guess due to my fighting spirt and silly improvises, I'd made it through.

One of the moment my mom got super excited again! hahaha. I'm 19 by the way, there was an error in my age on this article which made everyone on set think that I'm 23 instead.

Like every other memorable highlights in my life, I've also learnt a great deal about things from the entire filming process. For those out there who are dreaming to act in the near future, always keep in mind that this is still a job. And like every job, there will be up and downs too. You can't keep thinking that acting is glamourous cause I think that it only is when you're walking down that red carpet. Every other day, it's tough work. And because this particular job revolves around your emotions, it's challenging to stay well mentally and emotionally when things don't go the way you want it to.

I've learnt that I am not an actress. I am not saying that I am not cut out for it but I'm just too pampered as a blogger to be one. And only when I'm totally cut out from this bloggosphere, will I be ready for the tough acting world that requires so much discipline and commitment.

I had a problem of commitment during The Lion Men filming process because I was juggling between school, shoots, events and filming. I was running from one place to another all the time and eventually my health dwindled. I was so sick and tired of everything, it was my breaking point. I'd become such a nasty person to Fai, taking out on him all the time and we couldn't spend much time with each other cause filming was my priority then. I'd also missed out on several blogging deals and events, and lost out on a hell lot of shoots as well. Which means low income at that time.

It was very upsetting for me and I guess I was at my lowest and wanted out from filming at one point of time. Everything just wasn't going that way I planned it to. I'd realized then that I'm not the superwoman I thought I could be and was utterly disappointed in myself. Had it not been for my fellow cast-mates, I would have quit halfway cause I just wasn't strong enough and I was too exhausted that my heart wasn't there anymore. Thankfully, everyone got along really well, we'd made it through together counting on each other's moral support and words of encouragement. I could not have asked for a better group of people to be around with for that entire three months. Seeing them so passionately working hard inspired me to work just as hard to make it all worth while.

Though there were many disappointing, exhausting and upsetting moments during the filming period, it was also very nourishing for me as an individual. I feel that I've grown to be a more patient and discipline person. Also, I've learnt to appreciate what I have around me and do the things I love to the best of my abilities for I will never allow anything or anyone to take it away from me ever again. Acting was a great experience, meeting new people was even better and having a taste of how things were done behind the scenes will always be remembered.

Being a part of The Lion Men film was amazing no matter how small my role was and I will never forget it. Thank you Gushcloud for hooking me up with Jteam, thank you directer Jack for this opportunity no matter how terrible my Mandarin was and also, I wanna thank all the cast and crew for being such inspiring and nice people.

OH AND ONE LAST THING. I've also learnt to that I CAN SPEAK MANDARIN IF I WANT TO. All these years, I've always been telling myself that I can't speak Mandarin, well to some extend its true because I keep telling myself that. But when I'd decided to just put down that facade and try it, I miraculously could. In fact, I'd managed to memorize my lines in Mandarin for the second audition which secured my spot in the movie. I've always been too afraid of people laughing at my accent when I speak Mandarin that I just pretend I can't speak it. But ever since this experience, I don't care anymore and I will converse in Mandarin if I have to and I won't be shy about it no more :)

Once again, I am super thankful for everyone who has played a part in making these 3 highlights happen for me. They have, without a doubt, shaped me into being the person I am today. They've trained me to be a responsible blogger, they've opened my eyes to the real world and they've reminded me to appreciate what I have. All while having lots of fun at the same time.
