This Is Pharaoh: Pooch's Image

Hey there! This is Pharaoh. Mummy's feeling a little under the weather so I'm taking over for a while. She told me to talk about my grooming experience at Pooch's Image, so here goes! Excuse me if I make any grammatical or spelling errors, I can't type as well as you humans, with my paws.

First of all, I am only 6 months old, and mummy took me home when I was about 3 months old. So I've only had 3 grooming experiences, and I am so grateful that mummy chose the right groomer for me, from the start. I also want to thank the lovely people at Pooch's Image for reaching out to me and showering me with lots of love and attention while I'm at their salon (or rather, doggie spa).

I wouldn't know but mummy said that the location is a little too far away from where we live; however we are very grateful for Pooch's Image taxi service! The last time we visited the salon, we were picked up in a really nice car, and that saved mummy a lot of hassle, cause she didn't need to call a cab. And we all know how cab drivers are with dogs like me. They don't really like me to sit in their cars because I tend to fidget a lot. Hence, I'm also really happy with the taxi service because I can do whatever I want and not get judged! hehehe.

Being a dog, I don't really care much about design but mummy said that Pooch's Image interior design, decorations and concept are really cool. The moment you walk into the shop, you'll be greeted by soothing vintage music that apparently mummy really loves. She has a thing for antiques, and that's what you'd find almost everywhere in the shop. It feels great knowing that mummy is happy. 

You can also find numerous framed up certificates plastered against the walls, and it makes me feel safe knowing that mummy placed me in experienced and professional hands.

Apart from grooming services, Pooch's Image is also a pet shop that provides a wide array of doggie food, treats and necessities. Mummy spends most of her time looking through the selection while I'm inside taking a bath. 

Pooch's Image provide safe and clean designated waiting areas for us to relax at while waiting for our turn. 

Oh and that's me taking my bath! According to mummy, this is a special bath. It's called Carboxy Pet Care Bath and Shower Tab. I'm basically bathing in carbon dioxide rich waters, which makes my coat beautiful and healthy from "outside-in" and "inside-out".

I'm going to try to explain, pardon me if I don't make sense; I'm just a dog.

From what I know, introducing carbon dioxide to my blood will cause my body to initiate more oxygen production, which is carried by my red blood cells. This improves blood circulation to my skin, which will make me feel revitalised. All in all, if my skin is healthy, I'll have a healthier coat!

Next, it was time for my full grooming session! This includes cleaning my ears, clipping my nails, trimming and removal of my inner coat. It's not my favourite session because I hate having my nails cut. I've always had a phobia since I was a really small puppy, but somehow the groomers at Pooch's Image managed to do it without me flinching as much. Kudos to them!

Ta-da!!! Mummy's always very pleased with how I look, smell and feel at the end of all my grooming sessions. She always goes "OMG! Hi! You look so clean and white now!" Well, I guess I do look better after my sessions. At least I can jump onto humans without hurting them with my long nails anymore. Also, I can poop better without worrying about staining my butt fur. hehehe.

So thank you mummy for bringing me to Pooch's Image every month, and thank you groomers for taking such good care of me! My fear of going to the groomers is slowly dwindling :)

This is Pharaoh

Taking care of a dog is tough. Taking care of a puppy is even tougher. Last week, I brought a new member of the family home with me, and life took a 360-degree turn. I no longer head out the moment I wake up, instead I spend at least 30 minutes cleaning up Pharaoh's potty area, another 30 minutes preparing his food, and making sure he eats, then another 30 minutes to play with him, before he finally falls asleep again. 

I'm not complaining since I'd already mentally prepared myself for the worst case scenario, a month prior to taking him home. The only thing that's making things difficult at the moment is his health. The first few days, Pharaoh was fine. Like most pups, he was typically active and curious, with a happy-go-lucky personality. His stool however, was pudding-like, which isn't a good sign. I didn't think too much about it since it's pretty natural for puppies to excrete loose stools if they're stressed out, in an entirely new environment.

However, his stools started becoming watery as the days go by. They're also accompanied by a strong foul smell that wakes me up every morning. Again, I didn't think much about it since there weren't any changes in his behaviour, and he was still eating fine. I only knew something was wrong when I found drops of blood in his poop yesterday morning. Immediately, I rushed down to the nearest veterinarian clinic to have him checked up.

It was such an exhausting event since I had to do it on my own. Pharaoh weighs 5.5kg (12 prounds), he needed to go potty frequently due to diarrhoea, he couldn't stop fidgeting in the Uber car, and I couldn't put him down on the floor since he hasn't complete the full round of vaccinations (he only had two shots so far). Thankfully he simmered down when it was our turn to see the doc. He did very well when our doc did the necessary check ups, didn't finch or anything.

However, we don't know what caused the diarrhoea for sure since it could be a cumulative of various factors, such as stress in new environment, change of food or even consumption of foreign objects. I'm just praying it isn't anything serious like parvo or distemper...

According to the vet, Pharaoh is fever free with no abdominal pain, so that's a relief. Let's hope he stays this way. He is also very active, is eating normally and drinking the same amount of water he usually drinks.. So.. I guess he's better than I anticipated.

Is it normal for Pharaoh to feel sleepy after taking his medication?

This morning when I woke up, I was horrified to witness Pharaoh puke twice right in front of my eyes. From my research, diarrhoea accompanied by vomiting is a red flag! It could be one of those deadly viruses I'd mentioned earlier. I called two different veterinarian clinics right after, and they both said that he could have puked due to an empty tummy, since I haven't feed him breakfast as his gastrointestinal tract (GIT) needed to rest and recover from whatever is causing the upset. 

True enough, after feeding him kibble with egg (tried plain porridge, pumpkin puree, banana, but no go!) he didn't puke anymore. It's very heartbreaking to see Pharaoh like this. To many, he may be just a dog, but he is literally my baby.. I have so many plans for him, it's too early to say goodbye... I know I sound very drama but it hurts to see him sick. I can only hope for the best and expect the worst now... May God watch over him and bless him... I love you Pharaoh.

14th May Updates - My New Pup, Pharaoh!

This space is dead already isn't it? hahaha. Sorry for the lack of updates guys! I am kinda taking some time off blogging to concentrate on filming and soon, a new little fella in my life, which I'll talk more about later. At the moment, I am waiting to receive my diploma certificate from Temasek Polytechnic, hence I am able to spend a lot of time at home and at shoots. 

I'd like to be able to say that I used the time and money to travel, but I only managed to visit Bangkok lately. It was just a short little getaway with Fai and Shine, where we did nothing but shop and eat. It was a pleasant trip but nothing quite spectacular since Bangkok's just another concrete jungle like Singapore. I've learnt that I truly only enjoy beach holidays, and that I am constantly yearning for one ever since my recent Bali visit.

However, in time to come, I might not be able to travel as much as I've always wanted to anyway! And that's all because I got myself a puppy! hehehe. I've no complains or regrets whatsoever though. I've always wanted a dog and I knew that I'll get one some day. As time went by, I fell in love with a specific breed, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I'd spent the last few years watching videos of Corgis, reading up on them, and after knowing so much about this breed; my heart was set on getting one. The only problem is, it's not a popular dog breed among Singaporeans, and the demand isn't high, so it's hard to find one at a local pet store or shelter. And since it's so rare, Corgis in Singapore are sold at a really high price. Therefore, I'd spent the last year saving up so that I can get a Corgi puppy for myself one day. And I did it! *Grinning proudly*

My little Corgi pup is still living with the pet breeder, and I will only be able to take him home a month from now, since he is required to undergo vaccinations first. I agreed because I'll be away in Penang for filming (Another great news! I’ll be in Mata Mata season 3!!), over the next few weeks starting 21st May, and will not be present to give my full attention to my little pup just yet (but I am still able to visit him as much as I can). By the time I am done with filming, I'll be able to take him home with me! Perfecto! It’s match make in heaven :)

If you've been following up with me on Instagram, where I am much more consistent with my postings, you probably already know my pup's name. I chose to name my puppy Pharaoh, like the title given to kings of ancient Egypt. You see Corgis aren't like popular toy breed dogs (e.g. Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Shih Tzu etc.) in Singapore; they're not like your typical cute cuddly breeds. In my opinion, they're competition type dogs - outgoing, bold and tenacious. They're herding dogs so they are highly trainable (Corgis are ranked 11th most intelligent dogs), and know exactly what they want, thus I find their characteristics very admirable and inspirational in some way. Because of their personality, I couldn't bring myself to give him cutesy names like "Fluffy", "Booboo" or whatsoever. I thought a Corgi would be more suited with a respectable name. Hence I called him Pharaoh.

Why Pharaoh? It is simply because I've always been intrigued by Ancient Egyptian culture, deities and royalties. That's quite a known fact about me FYI. 

I am aware that Corgis need tons of exercise and mental stimulation; hence I plan to spend everyday for the first few months of Pharaoh's development at home with him. Yes, I am committed in staying home to train him and bond with him. Should I need to leave the house, I'll try my best to bring him along :)

I even have plans to take Pharaoh for puppy training classes so that he gets the opportunity to play and socialize with other pups and their owners. A lot of dogs in Singapore end up aggressive because they didn't get the opportunity to mingle with other dogs and learn social skills as a puppy. I don't ever want Pharaoh to grow up into a timid, unfriendly or aggressive dog, so I will do all I can now before it's too late.

Since I don't know much about Pharaoh's personality yet (except for the fact that he makes a lot of funny faces), I shall end this post here. You can expect a lot of blog entries about him in future once I get to learn more about him! hahaha. I am certain that there will be a lot of ups and downs, but I am mentally and physically prepared for it all. Through my experiences so far, I've learnt that getting a dog isn't child's play. It's a HUGE responsibility, rigorous research and preparation goes into getting one, and sadly a lot of people just don't understand it (it's about the same as having a newborn baby).

I can't wait to bring Pharaoh home with me, and I can't wait to start training him. It's going to a be a roller-coaster ride, but I'm sure Pharaoh will be the best thing that has ever happened to my family and I :)
